Irish music for the soul

irish-wedding-musicAnother brace of gigs under the belt for the Curragh Sons Irish band!

The son’s brought their unique brand of Irish Music to another pair of unsuspecting audiences at the end of last week.

Friday saw the sons playing a fond farewell to Head Teacher of Longdendale School, Brian Parker (pictured), at Godley Masonic Hall. The evening was a fitting farewell to a very popular member of the team at Longdendale helped by the Curragh Sons’ persistent approach! Highlights included the perenial favourite ‘Five Drunken Nights’ made famous by the Dubliners – of course the Curragh Sons version has an extra two nights tagged on.

As for Saturday’s show, well what can I say! Another fine evening at the hands of Glossop Rugby club. Those boys certainly know how to throw a party, and party we did. From the moment the Son’s started, with their now trademark Galway Girl (made famous by Steve Earle on the Magners Cider advert) the humble clubhouse was rocked to the core.

It’s all a little hazy to this reporter as to what actually happened during the monstrous two hour set but highlights included long suffering Curragh Son’s roadie ‘Oaf’ crowd-surfing to Whiskey in the Jar and some chap name of Martin falling over and almost knocking himself out during a particularly energetic rendition of I’ll Tell My Ma (made famous by Christy Moore and The Chieftains among others.
